At the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 everything fell into place. I won the gold medal and my friends and Swiss team mates Sina and Linda won silver and bronze.
However, it was a wild ride to get there. Only six weeks before the Games I broke two bones in my left hand at a World Cup race, initiating a race against the clock to make it to the start line in Tokyo. I couldn’t train off-road and moreover the track in Tokyo was the most demanding technical track that has ever been raced in the history of mountain biking at the Olympic Games. And then it rained! The challenge was taken to a whole new level. I reminded myself how I had won twelve World Cup races in the most adverse of conditions. How I had come back from a life-threatening injury just over a year ago. What was a race in the rain compared to that? I could feel that the whole universe was with me. This was my race.
The 2022 season proved to be a big step in the right direction: a XCO and XCC World Cup win in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada. A silver medal at XCO World Championships in France. Another XCC World Cup win in Nove Mesto, and a bronze medal at XCM World Championships. Definitely a year to cherish and a lot of motivation to take into the winter build up towards next year!
